Quando sono arrivata a Camerino, Marco, il mio tutor, mi aspettava alla stazione degli autobus della città. Mi ha accolta con un grande “Benvenuta a Camerino!” 

A causa della situazione di Covid-19, il mio volontariato non ha potuto iniziare subito, prima ho dovuto fare una quarantena. Ho trascorso i miei primi giorni in una delle case S.A.E., che sono le strutture abitative di emergenza costruite per trasferire le persone che hanno perso la loro casa a causa dell’impatto della serie di terremoti avvenuti tra l’agosto e l’ottobre del 2016. Questo mi ha fatto scoprire che cos’era una casa di emergenza e capire in quale situazione vive oggi la popolazione. Questo è stato anche un buon momento per conoscere l’altra volontaria inserita nel progetto, Chloë, per condividere molte curiosità delle nostre culture, e per iniziare a frequentare i corsi di italiano.

Giovedì abbiamo fatto il tampone e siccome entrambi sono risultati negativi, abbiamo potuto iniziare ad uscire. Il giorno dopo, Marco ci ha portato in un bosco di castagni per aiutarlo nella raccolta, per scoprire la flora e la fauna e imparare a selezionare i frutti migliori . È stato bello ritrovare il contatto con la natura dopo qualche giorno trascorso al chiuso.

La settimana successiva è stata molto attiva e divertente. Abbiamo ricevuto il grembiule di IoNonCrollo come onorificenza, così siamo entrati ufficialmente a far parte dell’associazione! Da quel momento abbiamo iniziato a lavorare al progetto: una delle nostre attività consiste nel realizzare la seconda edizione del libro di cucina S.A.E.. Allo stesso tempo, siamo andati alla scoperta di Camerino. Dario, il nostro mentore, ci ha guidatto in un tour dell’Università di Camerino e ci ha portato in un ristorante dove abbiamo imparato l’ordine italiano dei piatti: antipasti, primo (pasta o risotto), secondo (carne di pesce entrée), contorni (contorni) e dolci (dissert), che delizia! 

Marco, il nostro tutor, ci ha mostrato molti posti affascinanti a Camerino. Una delle esperienze davvero più belle che abbiamo vissuto è stata mangiare una pizza nel cuore dell’orto botanico. Inoltre, abbiamo partecipato ad una visita molto speciale, siamo infatti potuti entrare nella banca dei semi e nelle ricerche di archeologia animale, è stato davvero interessante!

Siamo in tempi insoliti, e purtroppo il coronavirus ha avuto un impatto sul nostro volontariato. Dobbiamo adottare alcune misure come avere contatti solo con il nostro tutor e il nostro mentore. Inoltre questa situazione ha complicato il processo del libro di cucina. 

Nonostante tutto, abbiamo la ppossibilità di vivere Camerino, una bella città che deve affrontare i problemi del post-sisma e ora anche la crisi del coronavirus. Quando facciamo le nostre passeggiate nei nostri momenti liberi, pensiamo che in una situazione normale non sarebbe così vuota. Questa città ha angoli meravigliosi e panorami magnifici. Comincio ad innamorarmi dei Monti Sibillini: a seconda delle diverse ore del giorno ogni scenario sembra una nuova cartolina. 

Con questi splendidi paesaggi e nonostante lo strano contesto che stiamo vivendo, Camerino mi ha dato una grande accoglienza!

I arrived in Camerino on Monday, 19th of October. Marco, my tutor, was waiting for me in the bus station of the town. He received me with a big «Benvenuta a Camerino!». Due to the situation of Covid-19, my volunteering could not start at once, first I had to do a quarentine. I spent my first days in one of the S.A.E. houses, which are the emergency living structures built to relocate the people who lost their homes due to the impact of the series of earthquakes which occurred between the August and the October of 2016. This made me discover what an emergency house was and understand in which situation live these residents nowadays. Also, it was a good time to know the other volunteer, Chloë, which whom we share a lot of curiosities of our cultures, and to start taking Italian classes.

On Thursday we did the covid test and as our results were negative we could start going out. The next day, Marco took us to a chestnut wood, in order to help him with the recollecting. We learned how to select the best fruits and we also had the possibility to visit the donkeys, the cat and the dog, that his brother own. It was nice to reconnect with nature after a few days indoors.

The next week was very active and entertaining. We received the apron of IoNonCrollo as a way of honours, so we became part of the association officcially! From that moment, we start working on the project that consist of making the second edition of the S.A.E. cooking book. At the same time, we went to discover Camerino. Dario, our mentor, makes us a tour of the University of Camerino and took us to a restaurant where we learn the Italian order of dishes: antipasti (appetizers), primo (pasta or risotto), secondo (meat of fish entrée), contorni (sides) and dolci (dissert), what a meal! 

Marco, our tutor, has shown us a lot of charming places in Camerino. One of the really nice experiences that we had was eating a pizza in the heart of the botanic garden. Furthermore, we had a very special visit because we could enter into the seed bank and the animal archeology research, which were really interesting.

We are in unusual times, and unfortunately the coronavirus has had an impact in our volunteering and we have to adopt certain measures, such as only have contact with our tutor and our mentor, and also, has complicated the process of the cooking book. In the same way, we can see that Camerino it’s a beautiful town that has to face with the post-sisma problems and now, also with the coronavirus crisis. When we take our walks in our free times, we think that in a normal situation, it shouldn’t  be so empty. This town has wonderful corners and magnificent views. I am starting to fall in love with the Sibillini mountains, with which in different hours of the day, every sky makes a new postcard. With this beautiful landscapes and despite of the strange context that we are living, Camerino has given me a great welcoming.
