Cuba is experiencing one of the most severe crises in recent decades. The United States embargo, which continues to impact the country in an unjust and illegitimate way, is fueling a deep economic and energy emergency marked by fuel shortages, inflation, increasingly frequent blackouts, and growing difficulties in accessing essential goods such as food and medicines. The most vulnerable populations are bearing the heaviest consequences.

In this context, ARCS continues to stand alongside the Cuban people. Alongside the “Energy for Life” campaign, through which we support hospitals, Houses of Culture, and small productive activities by providing solar panels and energy storage systems, we are also supporting the Food and Nutrition Security Programme promoted by the OHcH (Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana), funded by the Otto per Mille of the Waldensian Church.

In the Belén neighbourhood, where over 600 people receive assistance, since the end of 2024 approximately 12,500 kg of food have been distributed, including protein products, cereals, and dairy, with a total value exceeding €100,000. As the crisis has worsened, since February 2026 ARCS has also provided over 2,000 kg of powdered milk intended as nutritional support for elderly people and children.

Alongside emergency response efforts, we are also implementing long-term interventions: since 2024 we have been supporting the creation of urban gardens to strengthen local production of fresh food and increase community self-sufficiency.

Today, in Cuba, food and energy mean health, dignity, and the future.
