DROIT: Rights, Social Reintegration, Vocational Guidance and Protection for Young Adults, Women and the PwDs in the Lebanese Prisons

Description: Promoted by the NGO ARCS, the three-year project aims at improving the conditions of detention of people in conflict with the law in Lebanon. The initiative provides the detainees with enhanced basic assistance services (psychological and legal support), vocational trainings and social reintegration of young adults, women and people with disabilities (PwDs) in the Lebanese prisons of Roumieh (male prison) and Barbar el-Khazen (female prison). It also promotes a new approach to the Lebanese penitentiary system which aims at changing the punitive function of prisons into a process of rehabilitation and reintegration of the inmate (Rabieh Center). The proposal, promoted by ARCS, includes a capacity building program for the two local NGO partners, AJEM and Mouvement Social, and it involves a network of Italian organizations, such as Associazione Antigone and the Guarantor of persons subjected to restrictions of personal liberty of the Tuscany Region, Arci Toscana, and No Peace Without Justice.
