Despite the high demand, also on international markets, due to its nutritional properties, fonio is scarcely produced due to the difficulties linked to the heavy harvest and post-harvest operations, which are still strictly manual.
By increasing the quantitỳ and qualitỳ of fonio produced in organic farming, this project aims to enhance production in 6 production poles in the three departments of the Kedougou region, with important repercussions on the food security and income of the population involved.
The project intends to address the problems associated with fonio cultivation techniques, through the purchase of suitable means of production, and to improve its qualitỳ through the training of producers in organic farming production specifications and the strengthening of producers’ capacities and skills.
